TWO WORDS - ONE IDEA

YERTO - YERTVA

Visigoths - Ostrogoths

Yerto in Spanish implies stiff as in dead (in strict sense, "rigid - cold")- "Jertva" (pronounced zhertva") in Ukrainian implies "sacrificial victim". Perhaps this provocative similitude is one more sign of the impact of the Goths, in particular Ostrogoths who migrated from the Italic peninsular toward Western Ukraine and Crimea.

Such hypothesis is consistent with other signs of Gothic culture and names. "Galicia" and Gaul, in Spain and Ukraine are well-defined. In both of these regions the "bag-pipe" (gaita in Spanish) is popular.

What do you think or better yet, what do you know?
