CHARMING CHERNIHYV
Chernihyv or Chernihov in Russian, is a city in Ukraine emblematic of Christianity in Eastern Europe. It is a site of many historic cathedrals (including the oldest in Ukraine). It is also the site of one of the largest Kurgan (Tumulus), a type of memorial found between Scandinavia and Turkey to the south and China to the west. Once Chernihiv competed with Kyiv as the core city of eastern Slavs - it is located some 50 miles north form Kyiv, Ukraine.
A visit to Chernihyv (note the various spellings) is a unique way to view and absorb the beauty of Christian symbolism expressed by architecture. The compactness of the city, the ability to see its charms on foot and the preservations of monuments erected during multiple centuries offers a unique opportunity to those with open eyes and minds.
