This is one of three paintings by Tiziano Vicellio (Titian) commissioned in 1523 for the Duke of Ferrara, Alfonso de Este. All three were preserved by aristocrats and kings irrespective of their erotic implications. Further comments are found in companion pages dedicated to the other two paintings.
