The trident as an emblem of the power of Poseidon or Neptune. For centuries, the trident has been an emblem of Ukrainian people. Perhaps, this reflects the fact of many wet lands in that region, ruled by the mythic "Vodovoy" (a mythic equivalent of Poseidon).
