"Le Cortege de Thetis" (see details), 1500 Baryolomeo di Giovanni Louvre Museum, Paris, France
Thetis, a Nereid daughter of Nereus with Doris and a marine deity who could metamorphose as much as Proteus could. Thetis was given in a marriage to a mortal (Peleus), because her son was destined to be greater that his prospective father. She bore Achilles who was mortal and was killed during the war with Troy. The centaur shown above presumably is Chiron, the mentor of Aesculapius and close friend of Peleus.
