"Leopold Auenbrugger M.D. (1722-1809) " From an unknown Site

Dr. Leopold Auenbrugger by an unknown artist was an Austrian clinicians considered to be a pioneer of Medical Semiology (formerly Semiotics) - a discipline dedicated to the detection and interpretation of signs, their combinations into syndromes. Auenbrugger's contribution was the promotion of percussion (akin to how wine and beer producers tapped barrels to determine their fullness). In those times, tuberculosis was common and often associated with pleurisy (accumulation of fluid in the thoracic cavity).
