"Biosphere - Radioactive - Chornobyl" (see related A | B | C | D | E)

The notion Biosphere connects directly to Ukraine - its independence - Volodymyr Vernadsky, the first President of the Ukrainian Academy of Sciences (1919-1921) - and his student, pioneer, and famous scientist Theodosius Dobzhansky, who reconciled the discrepant notions of Charles Darwin and Gregor Mendel, a famous fundamental blend of Genetics and Ecology. His colleague, the Nobel laureate and the first to demonstrate that Ionizing Radiation is mutagenic, Dr. Hermann Joseph Muller, the founder and author of the first article, published by the journal of the Human Genetics Association in the world. 

V. Vernadsky was the pioneer who demonstrated that the Earth is a living sphere (biosphere), a thin layer of life over a radioactive inert metal sphere (magnetism). 

From biosphere, we today have "Earth Day" and "Ecology" implying that the biosphere is the nest of its destructive offsprings, virtually explicitly humans. 

Today, the Chornobyl radiation has impacted the biosphere, but not the brain or soul of many. Although, perhaps, long time ago the pollution of the biosphere is not only physical, but mental. This Dobzhansky, who saved the life of his teacher Vernadsky, named Noosphere that is the biosphere of knowledge, conscience, and ethics.
