ACHONDROPLASIA FACIES
"Francisco Lezcano " (see related A), 1637 Diego Rodriguez de Silva y Velazquez (1599-1660) Prado Museum, Madrid, Spain
This "dwarfed" boy has signs suggestive of Achondroplasia, a skeletal genetic disorder that does not impede brain development. Known as Francisco Lezcano, he was the jester in the court of Prince Baltasar Carlos (who also asked Velazquez to portray other individuals with achondroplasia).
